The Campaign for America's Health Centers
TAKE ACTION:
America’s Health Centers and the over 23 million patients they serve now face multiple and serious threats facing from policy and funding proposals being considered by Congress and the President. The current negotiations and debate related to the Fiscal Year 2012 and future Budgets, coupled with public demands for significant Deficit Reduction, will have a dramatic impact on many domestic programs, like health centers. Any Budget Deal that seeks to achieve spending reductions even at the lower end of the $1-4 trillion range over the next ten years would result in dramatic cuts to the Health Centers Program, which was already cut by $600 million in FY2011 and would eliminate ALL Federal funding for the Health Centers program within 3 years.
Current proposals to dramatically change and/or reduce federal spending on Medicaid include block granting the program to the states or capping the amount the federal government would contribute to the program. Even if Medicaid is NOT Block-granted or capped, most experts believe that some reductions in spending will be required---and States are already clamoring for greater flexibility through Waivers that would allow them to reduce benefits, services, eligibility, or payment rates. Some are calling for ending the Health Center Payment System that assures health centers are fairly paid for treating patients covered by Medicaid Such actions would result in a reduction of health center Medicaid payments by AT LEAST 50%. Clearly, those who would suffer most and be asked to shoulder the pain would be our patients---and our communities.
We cannot win these battles unless the thousands of communities and millions of people who are served by and support health centers join together and fight together with a strong and compelling voice that says over and over again 'Save America's Health Centers!'
